Anniversary of The Concert for Bangladesh
1 August 2013
On this day, 1st August 1971, George Harrison and Ravi Shankar were joined on stage by their friends Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Billy Preston, Leon Russell and many more, to perform at the first major music benefit concert for a humanitarian cause, The Concert For Bangladesh. The concert sold out Madison Square Garden and along with the Grammy ® Award-winning triple-album boxset, and the feature film, has generated millions of dollars for UNICEF and raised awareness for the organization around the world.
In the tradition established by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar, the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF continues to support programs in Bangladesh, while expanding its influence to other countries where children are in need.
