28 September 2012
George Harrison: Living in the Material World was honored with two Emmy wins from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on the evening of September 16th, 2012. The film won awards for Outstanding Nonfiction Special and Outstanding Directing For Nonfiction Programming (Martin Scorsese).
“To be able to make a picture about George Harrison, to live with his music and his filmed image, to work with his collaborators and his loved ones, was pure joy. So these awards were extremely gratifying – to me and to the people who made this picture with me, including David Tedeschi, Margaret Bodde, Nigel Sinclair and my good friend Olivia Harrison.”
– Martin Scorsese
“Marty was able to summon George’s spirit in this documentary and I think in the end it’s that spirit that the audience and the Emmys have responded to.”
– Olivia Harrison
