Ravi Shankar: Life In Music
30 April 2015
Yesterday saw the opening of ‘Ravi Shankar: Life In Music’ at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, the first exhibition in the United States to celebrate Raviji. The exhibit hopes to give a “one-of-a-kind glimpse into the GRAMMY-winning world music icon’s early life, the roots of his musicality and his vast impact on Western music”, and celebrates Raviji by showcasing his life through artifacts such as items of clothing – including outfits worn at Woodstock in 1969 and the Concert for Bangladesh, sitars from his collection and rare photos from the family collection.
Olivia says, “the Ravi Shankar exhibition will be a privileged glimpse into a life dedicated to, and consumed by, Indian classical music, not only played on sitar, but through all forms of instruments, voice and dance”. It’s all on display on the Museum’s fourth floor, so do go and check it out if you can.
